Cleaning the town, literally…day 136

Talk about an early start. Cor picked me up at 8am, went to pick up some coffee and headed to Chapultepec to prep things for the national cleaning campaign hosted by our company every year. Over 25,000 employees spent Sunday morning cleaning parks all over the country.

Lucky for us girls, we finished by 10:30am, jumped in the car and looked for a place to enjoy breakfast outdoors. Unfortunately, looks like so did everyone else in the neighborhood. We ended up having more coffee and checking things out at the W Hotel for my birthday party this coming friday. Yes, I’ve decided to change locations to our favorite spot. After the W, we went shopping for mustaches and beards hehehe

I spent the afternoon with Goose and Lina on Prado Norte. We had coffee and checked out some of the cute shops on the block….Goose says we totally look like a family and I love that.

More Pillows…day 148

Sergio has been studying a lot over the past couple of days, and can’t believe he still has over a month of studying left until he’s out for the summer. Today, he decided it was time for a break and we went shopping for pillows for our room.

We spent the afternoon in Antara (mostly at Casa Palacio) looking for shams and decorative pillows. It feels really great to see our home coming together, and that we’re doing it all together. There are still a bunch of things we need—furniture mostly, but know that once we’re done, this place will be incredible…it will be OUR home.

Varela…day 146

Today was a long day at the office with so many things going on, but it feels good to see the progress and positive feedback. I had a meeting with a few of the guys from Product earlier today, and it looks like this project just got twice as big. They’re requesting a few alternative campaigns, and for me to create a “guerrilla dummy” for future launches nation wide. This is such a big thing! The meeting ran a bit late, and gave Goose enough time to pick me up at the office.

For the longest time, he’d been wanting to check out Varela at Antara, so we figured why not do it tonight. The place was very nice, and quite manly…wood all over the place, along with cow skin chairs. It made me think of Argentina who knows why…and next thing I know is the cuisine is influenced by Argentine and Italian flavors.

Since it was a tad late, we began with a caprese salad (best presentation we’ve seen so far), followed by a shrimp chipotle alfredo, and for dessert we had their dulce de leche creme bruleé and chocolate fondant. The presentation for all their dishes was wonderful, and quite perfect.

Varela is place we will definitely go back to…Goose now wants to try their meats—which even to me look pretty yummy!

Date set…day 124

After talking about this over and over again, we have finally decided on a date…and I will have my fall/winter wedding!!!

We have chosen November 10, 2012..which here would be 10-11-12

The wedding will take place at my grandmother’s house where I grew up, and I think she’s as excited as us. I also decided on a ring, and Goose is already on the hunt for it. We both wanted it to be something special and different, so he asked me to be part of the ring shopping process..and I fell in love with a beautiful pink H Stern. I can’t wait to have it on my finger.

So now that we have a real timeline, I’ve decided not cut my hair for the next 18 months, and dye it red so there’s no more bleaching and need to cut it so much. We are so excited and looking forward to all the planning madness.

Still nothing…day 123

Yes, that’s right, still no water. But at least we now know what happened. Sunday night we had some pretty hard rain hit the city, and due to construction everywhere, our water system got damaged an filled with mud. Turns out all five parking basements flooded, along with the elevator cubes—so yes, I’ve been forced to go up and down eight flights of smelly ass stairs.

Today I didn’t even bother coming home for lunch, specially since we don’t know how long this is going to last. So while I was at the office having lunch and watching Neighbors from Hell online, I realized it was time to change my relationship status, and clear up the rumors. So as of today, it says I’m engaged and people are no longer confused about my wedding planning LOL.

I’m so looking forward to my friends being here…and having Joel as my man-of-honor on the big day. I miss all of my friends back home so much—Jessica and Drew (the newlyweds), Abe, Vivi, Angie (the newly engaged), Benny, Lins and Jea…and of course my parents. To you guys, I promise the trip to DF will totally be worth it ;)

Goose and I have been working on our guest list, and we wonder who will go over the guest limit. So far I’ve managed to keep it under control…Goose has to make a tough decision LOL

*Last night in McAllen with Phillip, Jess and Joel…also my birthday party.

A day on Prado…day 100

As some of you may know by now, one of my favorite things to do is go to the market, and today I decided to take Lina with me, and Goose decided to join me…and let me drive!

Since it was a sunny day and I figured we’d walk around Prado a bit, I dressed as comfy as I could, wrapped a scarf around as a sling, put Lina in the scarf and headed out. When we got to the market, Goose wanted to check out the entire place before buying anything at the usual stand in case he found something he liked more. Unfortunately, most of the stands were closed, so we opted for the regular. As he was ordering the fruit and veggies—which they hand pick for you according to when you plan on eating it—I went over to talk to one of the florist to ask about seasons for specific flowers, care of gardenias, and work numbers for our wedding budget. We put our purchases in the car, and as I figured, we decided to walk down Prado Norte—I figured Goose would like it. And I was right! Specially when we reached the gourmet shop, La Castellana, where he finally found the spaghettini he had been looking for. I showed him around the different restaurants, cafes, art shops, and cute shops that are all over Prado Norte. We checked Mobica furniture store and fell in love with half of their inventory. Found some coasters we really liked, dining table set, lamps, place mats, bedroom set, etc. Everything was really nice. Memo to self: spend money wisely

We stopped by Starbucks to get some coffee and take a brief break. I thought it was really funny when someone asked if I was carrying a monkey. I always call Lina my little monkey, but never thought she looked anything like one—ODD. The baristas at Starbucks fell in love with and she let them pet her. After cooling down a bit, Sergio asked where Cafe O was, and went to check it out. We got in the car and headed over to Prado Sur…the fancier part of Prado, if that’s even possible LOL.

Everything was closed, except Cafe O, another little restaurant and the bakery I had been wanting to show to Goose…which now that I think about it, we didn’t check out :( We did see something that made us extremely happy—they’re building a City Market five minutes from our place!!!!!!!!

After checking out Prado Sur, we made one last stop before heading home: Gandhi book store and MixUp music and movie store. I ended up buying a cocktail book that I really liked, while Sergio checked out different cooking books.

It was a great Sunday, the three of us out enjoying the neighborhood…it painted quite a pretty picture of what our future can be like :)

Oh yes…nice…day 98

After four months of living in this awesome building, Sergio and I decided to stay in tonight and enjoy the hot tub along with a bottle of wine I had been saving, I guess you could say for a special occasion.

Work was slow today, heck—the entire week was slow….so relaxing in the hot tub, pool and sauna were just what I needed. We spent about three hours out there and discussed all the different ideas I have for the wedding. It’s pretty exciting for the planner to finally plan one for herself.

We decided to do something small, that involves our love for wine and coffee…and if all goes well, it’s take place in one of my favorite places growing up, my grandmother’s home. Here’s a little something of what I have in mind…

He’s home! day 66

Last night Goose finally came home and I was so happy to see him I shed a few tears. The drive to the airport was a tad crazy since I didn’t know to there and I’m still not use to driving on some of the main and busy roads. Turns out I learned that Viaducto used to be a two-lane street, and the government decided to add another lane without making the road actually bigger. So what do we have—very narrow lanes. But that’s beside the point. Luckily, Jay and I made to the airport in one piece and since it began to rain, I let Goose drive home.

This morning I was woken up by the sweet smell of freshly made pancakes and cappuccinos made by Goose. Breakfast was very yummy and was followed by a song that went a bit like “cough cough cough, sneeze sneeze cough” along with a wonderful fever and cold sweat. So I stayed home for the day, and slept like a bear in the winter.

Even though I didn’t go to the office, I worked on a script in between naps and am now gathering content for my next one. Hope my boss likes them and that we can begin working on this huge project I’m proposing.

One more!…day 60

Talk about the perfect way of starting the day, having pancakes made by Sergio to celebrate another month together. And he is so good at it! He says the secret is butter, but I think he might be keeping something to himself LOL

Work was a tad hectic since we still cannot get the videos right and load them to our server. I’m hoping we finish this as soon as possible, because before we know it we’ll be working on the April catalogue.

Luckily Jerry was back in the office and began working on a total of eleven vids. In the meantime, I began gathering as much information as possible about 4G since my boss is requesting a training video for all our employees-both corporate and retail teams. It’s crazy how six months ago we announced our ‘new’ 3G network and now we’re working on 4G. Good thing is so far things are coming together quite well.

While at the office, I texted Sergio and proposed we had dinner together out on the town. He chose the restaurant at Habita Hotel on Masaryk, LOBBY. Sergio absolutely loved his dinner, I’ve been so congested lately that food has no taste for me :{

As much as I was enjoying our time at Habita, my body decided it was time to go home and shut down. There’s been so much on my mind lately, I’m afraid I’m not getting much rest.

The difference it would make…

hon·es·ty — [on-uh-stee]

–noun,plural-ties.

1.the quality or fact of being honest; uprightness and fairness.
2.truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness.
3.freedom from deceit or fraud.

Honesty could be defined as truthfulness in speech and action. While this sounds simple, it’s surprisingly difficult to practise. Being truthful implies the presence of an active conscience and a working knowledge of ethics at the minimum. In everyday life, being truthful means listening to, and obeying, the voice of our conscience

Most of us will agree that honesty is a desirable quality in a friend and an invaluable necessity in a relationship. Yet, there are situations where we do not want brutal honesty… at times contradicting ourselves.
Honesty is one key value in all kinds of relationships that unfortunately is being forgotten by many. Just think about it this way… the last time you went out to your favorite bar, restaurant, lounge—wherever it is you go— you most likely saw someone wearing an outfit that made you ask yourself “What was she/he thinking?” my immediate thought is does that person not have a friend that can be honest and say “Maybe you should tone down the makeup,” or propose a different outfit without hurting anyone’s feelings.
When it comes to relationships, we always ask for honesty…if you actually survey women as to what qualities they look for in a man, a majority will mention honesty (unfortunately it rarely is on the top of their list). But what happens when he tells you exactly what’s on his mind, or when he tells you why he may have started seeing someone else? Women flip!!! Maybe that has something to do with the mentality that if the other person doesn’t know, it can’t hurt them.
Why do we have such a hard time saying what’s on our mind? Why is it so hard for some to admit when a dress does make your butt look big, or that facial hair might not work for all men.
And when it comes to our relationships, why is it so difficult to sit down and talk about things that could be done to improve and grow as a couple? Is there anything wrong with admitting that maybe meatloaf is not our favorite dish, that no—we don’t feel like watching basketball for the 3 night in a row, or that maybe the sex just isn’t what it once was?
Could it be that we choose to stay quiet to avoid conflict rather than work towards a better and healthier relationship?

Relationships are never easy, and as much as we try to understand the opposite sex, we are more likely to end up even more confused than when we started. Relationships cannot exist without communication, and that communication might sometimes mean being honest with one another, as well as with ourselves.
I’m not saying to go out and be brutally honest with everyone, the point is not to hurt anyone’s feelings, and unfortunately some don’t do so well with in-you-face honesty. I think that as long as we can be honest with ourselves first and think before we act, we’ll know what the next step is.
As cliché as this may sound, honesty has got to be the best policy. Lies work, but only for a certain amount of time, the truth eventually comes out and the consequences tend to be worse than if we had chosen to be truthful from the beginning. To truly be honest with others, we must begin with ourselves.
