Slow down please

Every now and then, I have to stop and ask myself where time is going. We are almost in the middle of march, and I just don’t seem to have enough time to get things done. My agency, Black Koi 360, has been picking up speed and in a way leaving me behind. I must admit I’ve always been the type to do things on my own, but with the launch of our sports marketing area, I think it might be time to make additions to the team.

Black Koi Sports is probably consuming most of my time currently, but find it to be a breath of fresh air. It allows me to interact with the sports community thanks to our athletes Ivan Terrazas (pro baseball) and Patrick Loliger (olympic rower), and is constantly changing.

Ivan should have been kicking off the season in about a week, and during the last day of spring training, injured himself and is out for 3 months. As terrible as you may think it is, this is an opportunity for us to position him in a different way, connect with his fan base and get him closer to them than ever. Sure, our strategy now must shift, but it keeps things interesting.

The wait is over…day 293

Today was the day thousands of women in Mexico City had been waiting for—the grand opening of the first Sephora store in the country, and luckily for me it is 2 minutes away from our place at Antara Fashion Hall.

Goose picked me up towards the end of the day at the office and we headed over to Antara to do a little shopping at Sephora. I have to say that the architecture of the store is perfect and totally sets the mood by increasing the excitement. As you walk in through the main entrance, you are welcomes by a spiral staircase with an ambiance light tower in the center and the already famous Sephora patter on the walls and stairs.

As we reached the bottom of the stairs we were welcomes by several of the Sephora local and US employees who were in town to help with the “festivities” and to finish setting up. The store was packed, but the sales team made sure everyone had received the best service possible.

Goose and I decided to split up so we could shop around with no hurry. I purchased just a few items since I had recently bought a bunch of Dior makeup at Palacio and only needed a few basics that included:

  • Naked eyeshadow set by Urban Decay
  • Powder and blush by Bare Essentuals
  • Lemon-Sage Body cream by Bliss
  • Make-up sponges by Sephora

There were a few things that I want to try out such as the Bobbi Brown concealers and the Yves Saint Laurent Parisian perfume, so I will definitely be visiting them quite often. Congratulations to everyone involved and who made this “playground” possible.

Date night…day 286

I have to admit that internet going out at the office on a Friday afternoon is great! After waiting around at the office for things to work again, I decided to head home and work from here instead. So by 4:30 I opened a Gouden Carolus and continued working on what seemed like the never ending search for vendors.

Goose picked me up around 8:30 to go have dinner at Vapiano—which like always was fantastic! We shared a E Funghi Pizza and pesto fussili along with a caesar salad. This time we had dinner out of the terrace which oversees the Soumaya Museum.

After a great dinner and conversation, we headed down the hall to the movie theater to watch Moneyball…Goose narrated the games to himself while I held back the laughter. What can I say, he can’t hide his inner fan.

Anniversary weekend…day 275

Yesterday Goose and I celebrated our one year “official” anniversary, and to celebrate we had an entire date day…well, almost.

I actually began my day having coffee with Tania while we had nanokeratin treatments at my favorite salon, Get Beauty Salon located towards the south side of town. If you dye your hair, or maybe damaged it due to heat I highly recommend this treatment! I have been dying my hair since 2000 and this treatment is one of the best things you can do to repair the damage. While we were there we also got to play with Edel’s beautiful pup.

But going back to Goose, after spending the morning at the salon, we headed to the movies to the watch “What’s your number.”  Even though it was a chick flick, Goose and I really enjoyed it. The movie was followed by a wonderful dinner at a place Goose had been wanting to check out for the longest time, the highly recommended Biko on Masaryk. Due to my allergies, I have to watch what I eat, but I must say their risotto was Faaantastic! Goose had a bit of everything, beef, deer, soup, and other things I can’t remember.

After dinner, we met up with our friends Tania, Paulina and her boyfriend Alberto at a nearby karaoke bar and had a blast! I had been singing professionally for a good 10 years, and hadn’t had a chance to hit a karaoke bar in over a year, so it was most definitely a wonderful time…Can’t wait to do it again!

Fashion’s Night Out…day 250

The day finally arrived and I couldn’t have been any happier to live in this great city. Tonight Vogue México hosted the first Fashion’s Night Out at the most important shopping centers in the Mexican capital and luxury boutiques on Masaryk—our version of Rodeo Drive.

Jay and I headed to Antara Fashion Hall at 8 and enjoyed a few glasses of champagne at Zara while we waited for Goose to arrive. We then headed to Brooks Brothers where they were offering barber services using Kiehl’s products along with complimentary Chivas scotch.

Afterwards, we headed to Kiehl’s for Jay to purchase a few shaving products, but couldn’t help stopping by Merry Cupcakes to try their chocolate cupcakes and fondant covered vanilla cupcakes. We stopped by one of my favorite, Tous. This one has become one of my musts since I discovered their beautiful jewelry about a year ago, but this time the one who fell in love with a ring/band was Goose, who beat me to the purchase line and ordered one his size. I really liked one of their newest shoulder bags and will hopefully e going back to purchase it in a few days. After enjoying some more champagne and laughs compliments of the wonderful folks at Tous, we checked out Purificacion Garcia where I fell in love with yet another handbag. This one was more along the lines of a medium Louis speedy, but made of brown/gray canvas with dark brown leather accents and handles, and a long strap to top it off—Beautiful!

By now we were done with the first level and headed over to Steve Madden on the second floor. For about two months I’ve been trying to buy their black Tsunami boots bit have had no luck getting them, not even online or in the US…and tonight was different. After SM, we decided to check out one more store, Pink, where Goose purchased a beautiful checkered lavender and white long sleeve shirt.

By the time we left Pink, we realized the party at Antara was about to die out—probably because the party bus had picked up everyone and taken them to Masaryk where Tiffany & Co. along with other boutiques were still hosting parties. We decided to call it a night And head home to our pups.

Gracias a Vogue México por una noche de moda y diversión. Que se repita!

Apartment hunting…day 246

Has it already been almost a year here at our apartment?!?

Time has flown by, and a few weeks ago I celebrated my first year with Iusacell, and now time has come to begin looking for what will be our next home. As much as we love our current apartment, spring and summer are just too hot here…to the point that my flowers barely last 24 hours and my plants..well, they die.

So yesterday we made it a point to go check out one of the more popular residential projects, Parques Polanco, known by some as the Central Park project. This place was just incredible and to die for. Parques Polanco consists of about five residential towers, each one designed by a different renowned architect and with it’s own style. The community counts with it’s own shopping center with restaurants, fast food, full gym, spas, dentist, language school, Office, Depot, Strabucks, Baskin Robbins, BlockBuster and Superama, mexican grocery chain ran and operated by WalMart with home delivery for the residents.

We checked out various apartments in the different towers and fell in love with a loft at the Norten tower, but also fell in love with the sky lounge at the Edmond towers.

This morning we spoke with the sales girl here at our building, and there might also be an option within our building of a bigger apartment for less money…and well, closer to my office. We still have two months to figure this out, but knowing how fast time goes, November will be here before we know it.

Ready for next week…day 244

I’m not going to lie, this week was way too long and tough. Even though Goose got back late on Monday, things at work seemed to be never-ending. Luckily, I now live in a city that is host to many incredible events, and next week I’ll get to enjoy two: Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and an event with Richard Gere and his Hliness the Dalai Lama.

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out seems quite promising at the Palacio de Hierro in Perisur. And to end the week, Goose and I were extremely and overly lucky to get tickets to an event presented by Richard Gere and a live speech by his Holiness the Dalai Lama. As a buddhist, this was one of my dreams and I doubted whether it would ever happen.

Valentino is home! … day 236

I never thought the time would come!

Valentino left my parents’ home in Texas earlier this afternoon around 8am and was on the 1pm flight to Mexico City. At first, I was told I could pick him up around 4:30pm, but all that changed thanks to airport import policies, and they held my dog captive till 7:30pm. The day at work seemed so long due to my excitement and joy, and as soon as I could I hit the road and spent two hours stuck in traffic just thinking about little Valentino being stuck in a kennel for 12 hours ago.

When they finally brought his kennel, he seemed very calm and quiet…that was until he heard me call his name. From that moment on, his kennel looked more like a swing with him jumping around and crying inside.

The drive back home was hell…I was totally and completely disoriented and ended up getting lost on the opposite side of town from where we actually live. Between Valentino’s cry for food, water and attention, the rain and traffic, I couldn’t help but begin to cry as well. I called Goose who’s still in Williamsport and he helped me get back on the right road.

Now it was time to see whether the pups, Valentino and Lina could actually live under the same roof…I love Valentine, but know he can be a little too much to handle some times. To my amazement, it was the complete opposite! Lina turned out to be quite a bully—even if she’s way smaller than him. They seem to be getting along just fine and am sure that in a few days they will be inseparable.

Dinner at the Hard Rock…day 228

I have no idea what happened this year, but my mom, Jay and I totally lost track of the dates and thought his birthday was today. But who says that has to be a bad thing right? It just means you begin celebrating sooner.

And to kick off his birthday celebration, I took Jay out to dinner to the Hard Rock Cafe on Reforma. We ordered Hard Rock Nachos, a tortilla soup and of course…BBQ Ribs. I have no idea how he does it, but he practically finished everything.

Everything was going very well until the band got back on stage and proved to everyone that they had no idea what they were doing. We assume it was their trial night or something since they had quite an audience—which consisted on their proud mothers who wouldn’t put the cameras down, families with toddlers (at 11:30pm) and fathers who wanted everyone to pay attention to the band.

Something I must mention is how beautiful the property is. If you ever find yourself in Mexico City, make sure you pay a visit to our local Hard Rock!

Don’t want to leave…day 219

Like all good things, weekends at the beach must come to an end. Last night the three us crashed and made plans to hit the water first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, Jay and I are like bears in hibernate mode 100% of the time and didn’t make it down to breakfast till around 11am, and got on the kayak till a little past noon.

It was so perfect, out in the water enjoying the three different views we had: the hotel, and two openings to the oceans on each side with giant rocks. Everything was going fantastic until a boat decided to go right next to us and tip us over. The first thing Jay noticed was that he had lost his glasses when we went under and it was too late to try to look…so we swam back to the dock pulling the kayak as Goose took photos and laughed his ass off.

Jay and I didn’t waste any time and got ready to get back on when all of the sudden I slipped on an algae covered step and got pretty banged up. As we were paddling out of the cove I realized my leg was bleeding and the minute I reached to wipe the blood off we turned once again. We totally got Poseidon’s message and got out of the water…and that’s when I realized I had really hurt my lower leg.

Ever since I was little I’ve been able to laugh and the stupid little accidents I had—probably because I always had bruises, cuts and scrapes from rollerblading, playing football with the guys, and attempting to skateboard. The in high school came the tennis and volleyball injuries. So today while the hotel owner seemed to worry, laughed it off with Goose and Jay and ordered a drink.

We left beautiful Boca Chica Hotel around 3pm feeling very rested, very tanned and extremely happy. Now we are planning a trip to sunny Cabo next month to celebrate independence weekend.

Oiled up for nothing…day 142

Usually around this time of the year you can find me next to a pool or at the beach tanning. So I decided today was the day to kick off my favorite time of the year…Tanning season!!!

I changed into my bikini, made myself a pomegranate margarita, got oiled up, headed up to roof garden (pool are is being remodeled), and realized there was a private party going on. I can’t wait for the pool remodeling to be over so I can spend the weekends down there in company of my good friends vodka and tequila.

Which reminds me, I would usually spend this weekend at South Padre with friends playing volleyball at Wanna Wannas or tanning at Mooncussers during the day, and partying at Tequila Sunset at night…along with the occasional piercing LOL

Talk about good memories :D

Afternoon on Prado…day 141

Goose has been studying like crazy lately…I guess law school is not as easy as I thought LOL.

Good thing is I’m driving more and more, and we live in an incredible part of town. So in order to let Goose study in complete silence, Jay and I took of to Prado Norte. We began with a semi late lunch at Churros De Valle. I am officially in love with their cream of bean. It is so delish! They serve it with avocado, chipotle and sour cream.

We then headed to Starbucks to pick up some iced coffees, and continued window shopping down Prado. We then headed over to Prado Sur and finally checked out a cute little bakery Cor had recommended a while back.

We were blown away by the flavor of their sweet bread and almond cookies. Everything is baked the old fashion way, in smaller sizes that are way more pleasurable. Yes, pleasurable LOL.

Before heading home, Jay and I went grocery shopping and couldn’t help but laugh when I saw my very own brand of chipotles (riiiight).

Think, think, think…day 116

First day back at the office, and it looks like people are still out on vacay…which meant a laid back day at work.

I spent most of the morning working on the new image for our VIP stored, but think my creativity might still be tanning and having sangrias in Ixtapa. The ideas just weren’t flowing like they usually do. At the end of the day I had my proposal ready to go and had booked the casting for my upcoming project.

In the evening I baked a brownie for the boys while Goose fried some enchiladas potosinas. Dinner was really good and it gave all of us time to catch up.
