Brunch at Bellini
Two Sundays ago my in-laws invited us out to late breakfast at the World Trade Center’s IHOP, but due to the 2 hour wait, we opted for rotating restaurant on the 45th floor instead—Bellini.
Bellini definitely has the best view of the town and actually holds the Guinness World Record for largest revolving restaurant. Their brunch buffet was the best we’ve had a quite some time. Looking forward to going back.

Quick beach getaway
For the past few months I had be wanting to get away from the city and escape to the beach for some sun and clean air…so when Goose mentioned a baseball meeting on sunny Isla Mujeres I bought a plane ticket and tagged along—sort of.
We arrived on the island around 2:30 in the afternoon and checked in at the hotel where the mayor’s office had made reservations. Unfortunately, it was an old motel out of a horror movie (think “Vacancy”) and we stayed no more than 20 minutes. The constant itching was a huge sign, and if that wasn’t enough Goose breaking out in hives was.
Luckily we found an all-inclusive hotel on the north end of the island—Privilege Aluxes. The place is a mere 2 years old, but the lobby has a very retro feel to it with circles on the ceiling, a round front desk for better service, and 70’s furniture. Our room turned out to be a one bedroom suite with living room, two balconies, two LED screens and an iPod dock/speakers/alarm clock.
After getting all settled we headed to the restaurant on the beach, Cafe del Mar for a late lunch—and to our surprise, a wedding. The food was really good, we had a bit of everything—shrimp chipotle tacos, pibil tacos, home made burger, fish, and god knows what else.
I was really glad to show Goose what I had in mind for our wedding and I think seeing it all happening convinced him. We continued the night over at the lounge outside “Sabor,” their all-day buffet restaurant.
Saturday Goose left early to attend his meeting at City Hall and I headed to the beach around 9am. It was definitely a beautiful sunny morning. After two hours at the beach, I decided to check out their breakfast buffet and continue tanning at the beach along with a few mimosas. Goose joined me probably around 2:30 by the pool where we talked about our wedding, sipped mimosas and talked about a few business opportunities.
Sunday morning we had a quick breakfast in our suite before taking the ferry back to the mainland and a crazy cab ride back to the Cancun airport. By 2pm we were back home with our pups and exhausted.

It has been a few months since our last trip to the beach (Acapulco), and even longer since my last visit to the beautiful caribbean beaches of Mexico. Luckily for me, Goose has a baseball event this weekend and it happens to be taking place at Isla Mujeres. When he asked me if I would like to go, there was no hesitating, bought my plane ticket and are now counting the days till Friday.
Definitely need to visit one of these next time we spend time in the Mayan Riviera :)
